If you’ve never tried cooking flank steak, there is nothing to worry about as it isn’t that complex. The crucial part is gathering the right components.
Grilled Flank Steak Ingredients
- Flank steak (2 lbs)
- Ground pepper
- Salt
- For the marinade:
- Ground black pepper (1/2 tsp)
- Honey (1/2 cup)
- Soy sauce (1/3 cup)
- Red wine (2 tbsp)
- Garlic
- Olive oil
Instructions
Make ¼ inch cuts along the surface of the meat. These need to be spaced an inch apart. Get all the marinade ingredients and combine them in a bowl. Immerse the steak in the marinade.
Ensure that all areas of the steak are flavored. Place the marinade in the fridge for at least a couple of hours. For optimum taste, 12 to 24 hours is recommended.
Start cooking flank steak by putting some olive oil on the grill. Preheat the grill to high levels. Remove the steak from the marinade.
Sprinkle some salt and pepper on it. Set it on the grill. Cook for 5 minutes per side. After 2 and 1/2 minutes, turn the steak 90 degrees to attain the grill marks.
Most like to eat flanks steak medium rare, but it can be well done or rare. Let the steaks rest for 10 minutes after grilling. Slice the steaks into smaller chunks (if desired) and serve it.
Broiling
If you’re interested in cooking flank steak via broiling, here’s how.
First, marinate the steak as instructed earlier. After marinating, put the meat in the pan.
Place the pan a couple of inches from the heat.
Don’t close the oven door. Allow 6 to 7 minutes per side if you want it medium rare. 9 minutes per side is recommended for medium.
Note: do not overcook the steak as it will get very hard.
Stuffing and Baking
Start by gathering all the stuffing. Combine them first. Put the flank steak in front of you. Set the stuffing over the steak. You begin cooking flank steak by rolling the meat with the stuffing.
Fasten the meat every couple of inches with a cotton string.
Place the meat in the baking dish. Bake at 350 F. It will be cooked after 40 minutes. Allow it to rest prior to cutting it into smaller pieces.
Buying Tips
Buy only red flank steak. Quality meats will be light red in color, but the interior will be a little darker. Hold the package. It has to be cold and the container without any tears.
This steak may be stored up to 4 days after buying. For longer life, store it in the freezer. Put a lot of aluminum foil around it.
If you don’t have aluminum foil, you can use freezer bags instead. These must be sealed tight so no flavor will be lost. Flank steak can be kept in the freezer for a couple of weeks.
