How to Cook Tofu

Tofu is a nutritious food that originated from China and popular for its soymilk content. This food is very healthy to eat because it contains a small amount of fat. Additionally, many people like to eat tofu since it is rich in iron, magnesium and calcium. The food can be prepared using the different cooking methods like frying, braising and stewing. Vegetarian Orange Glazed Tofu

The ingredients needed for this vegetarian dish are a block of tofu, two cloves garlic, two tablespoons olive oil, three tablespoons soy sauce, ½ cup orange juice, two tablespoons rice vinegar, ¼ cup orange marmalade, ½ teaspoon fresh ginger and 1 ½ teaspoon cornstarch.

Dissolve cornstarch in three tablespoons water and set aside. Mince the garlic and ginger. Slice tofu into cubes. Heat olive oil in a medium size pan for four minutes to five minutes. Saute garlic and add the tofu. Cook for three minutes. Add the orange juice, soy sauce, marmalade, ginger and rice vinegar. Stir and make sure that main ingredient is coated with the sauce. Heat the dish for five minutes and add the dissolved cornstarch. Wait for the sauce to thicken. Serve immediately.

Cornmeal Breaded Tofu

This delectable and healthy main entrée contains a package of well-pressed tofu, two tablespoons olive oil, two tablespoons nutritional yeast, ¼ cup flour, ¼ cup corn meal, a teaspoon of chili powder, ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper, ¼ teaspoon salt and ¼ teaspoon pepper.

The initial step is to set the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit and preheat. Pour olive oil in a baking pan. Cut the tofu into several portions. Make sure that the slices have thickness of ½ inch. In a large bowl, mix the corn meal, nutritional yeast, pepper, salt, cayenne pepper, chili powder and flour. Put the main ingredient in the mixture. Arrange tofu slices on a baking dish. Place the dish inside the oven. Bake the dish for seven minutes then turn the tofu. Cook for additional five minutes.

If you do not have an oven, you can fry breaded tofu in a skillet. Be sure that the color turns golden brown before removing from heat. Arrange the dish in a clean plate or small bowl. Serve with any type of dipping or sauce such as ketchup, hot sauce or barbecue sauce. Serve immediately.
